Ok there is something sweet from Brasil that can come out of your cooking pan anytime, and it’s brigadeiro. Made from very sweet (sweet bomb!) condensed milk and some cocoa, this treat that is very popular in Brasil will make for a great dessert to bring to a party, or just eat at home and take a bought dessert to the party instead. 😉
Let the condensed milk – mixed with a few spoons of cocoa powder – heat up in a pan and add a little butter to the mix. Now your job is to keep whisking until you’re done. And make sure nothing sticks!
After a couple of times of doing this you will for sure get the hang of switching temperature according to what is happening in your pan. 🙂 But for now, just keep stirring until your mixture starts to become more dense.
The crucial moment is: when to stop. If you do this too soon, you’ll have soup, and if you do this too late you’ll have fudge. But, as you are making brigadeiro here……. the right moment to stop is when you can see the bottom of the pan while stirring. Now you are done.
Let the mix cool down, butter your hands and roll it all into balls. Pass the balls through chocolate sprinkles (classic), cacao powder, coconut shreds or chopped almonds. Enjoy.
You can also make brigadeiro de colher or spoon brigadeiro: just start eating the mixture with a spoon after it has cooled down. 🙂
And, you can use it as cake frosting, just stop a bit earlier so that the mixture is less dense.
